Construction specifi cations (including those impo-
sed by Local Authorities) , the way to manage Plant
Material, etc..
In this phase, the Design and Construction codes
defi nition as well as best practices from previous
similar Projects’ feedback are essential.
Periodical dedicated meeting with the Client are
also needed to better defi ne stakeholders expec-
tations.
Subcontracting
In a typical EPC project, the Main Contractor sub-
contracts part of the scope of the work to one (ge-
neral) or more (discipline) Subcontractors.
Regarding the Bolt Tightening task, it is normally
appropriate to hire a specialized Company as pro-
vider of Bolting related Services, such as for exam-
ple:
• Prepare or review operative procedures;
• Design or Review calculation notes;
• Tightening Personnel Training;

• Site activities supervision;
• Inspection, testing and traceability;

integrated system

As per International Standards, the Quality system
requirements have to be integrated with the mana-
gement of some main topics as, for example:
• Contractual provisions and technical review;
• Sub-Contracting;
• Construction Specifi cations;
• Plant Material;
• Personnel qualifi cation;
• Quality Control Plans defi nition and implemen-
tation.
Contractual Provisions and Technical Review
Considering a defi ned contract frame between
Contractor and Client, the fi rst step to consider
is the review of the contractual requirements, in-
cluding those pertaining to Bolt Tightening to be
matched during the Project execution.
This step is fundamental to correctly defi ne the
strategy and properly manage the Subcontractors

Construction It remains Main Contractor’s responsibility, in any
