For instance, furnace charged pumps required
a special configuration due to both temperature
and corrosion. Indeed, in a refinery, the highest
temperatures are reached in the furnace and
TMP had to put into place special procedures
related to the pump warm-up and heat con-
servation aimed at avoiding thermal shock and
excessive cooling of both pump and fluid during
operation.
Due to the presence of both coke and particles
in the furnace, the application of special coatings
was also required on the fluid exposed surfaces
of the pumps.
